Minnesota's Stillwater Area Baseball Association Treasurer Dave Andrews found there was no place like home when it came to replacing his aging pitching mounds.

"I did a fair share of research on the internet," said Andrews. "But I knew Portolite was a great company with deep roots in Minnesota. To expedite the purchase and delivery, I worked with another Minnesota company, Eco Works Supply. I felt it was important to support the home team."

To Andrews, there was just something about keeping things local. He loves that Portolite is a second-generation baseball company and Eco Works Supply brought great warranties, service and fast delivery to the table.

"When you buy local, you're going to get taken care of," said Andrews. "You're able to build better relationships locally. People make good on promises. Take Eco, for example, I didn't have to wait, and they delivered the mounds themselves."

Andrews replaced his aging pitching mounds with three 6" one-piece Portolite game mounds. Two key reasons for the switch: No more lip and better portability.

Andrews and his crew were constantly raking dirt around mounds to prevent lips. Portolite mounds are designed with gentle slopes and tapered edges. That keeps rakes in the shed.

Adjusting and storing the old mounds used to be a back-breaking task, requiring a team of eight. Those days are over.

"These Portolite mounds are lightweight, and that allows us to be much more efficient when adjusting mounds between games," said Andrews. "That time saved really makes a difference when you're managing eight teams of 9- to 12-year-olds."

Portolite design and durability means more games and more practices for the Stillwater Area Baseball Association. But that's where Andrews feels right at home.
