Jon DeGennaro was drafted by the Phillies in 1987 after pitching in high school and college, but his professional baseball career was sidelined after injuring his arm and undergoing two Tommy John surgeries.

Years later, he’s back to his baseball roots as the director of the Lynx Travel Baseball in Klein, Texas, just north of Houston. He founded the company after leaving his corporate career in insurance.

DeGennaro found himself spending more time on the baseball diamond. First, he coached his son, then he taught private pitching lessons, then he started coaching multiple teams.

“At that point I said, ‘Why can’t we bring it all together?” DeGennaro said.

Lynx Baseball started in 2012 with four teams and now has 27, serving players from coach pitch and 9U up to college showcase.

As his league has grown, so has his equipment needs – and DeGennaro tested just about every portable pitching mound on the market.

As a former pitcher, he knew he needed the best pitchers mound for his players.

“Portolite is the brand we decided to go with after testing others,” he said. “I try products out until I find ones I like.”

Lynx currently has two 10” Game Mounds in the two-piece variety – an option many facility owners and league directors choose because of how portable and easy they are to move on the field and off.

DeGennaro said he plans to buy more as the Lynx expands.

The mound’s plateau is wide enough for pick-off moves and there’s a gentle slope, something he knew he knew was critical to game experience. It’s ideal for both high school as well as youth players.

“We like the portability, we like the durability,” he said. “It’s a true game mound.”

Portolite Pitching Mound’s 10-year limited warranty says it all. Portolite has set the standard in lightweight, durable and portable pitching mounds since 1992.
